In an article recently posted on ESPN F1, Sebastian Vettel talks about the first time he drove a F1 car in a test for Williams. Unsurprisingly, and as I'm sure is the case with most drivers unless they happen to be !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , it scared the shit out of him and left him in awe:
"The first time I tested the car, Mark drove in the morning and I drove in the afternoon," he said. "I shat myself for the first couple of laps and I thought, alright, that's for real men, not for me. Then I got used to it and obviously wanted to do more."
Read the whole article !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . (not much more)

If only fate had been different and he'd been feeling a bit rubbish and completely fluffed the test. F1 would have been so much more interesting the past few years

I'm not a fan and I'm certainly a little tired of him winning, but 2010 and 2012 were fantastic seasons; both went down to the last race, and don't forget the drama at Interlagos where Seb spun out on the first lap and had possibly suffered race-ending damage). Additionally, 2011 had some of the best races in the past 5 years in them. So when I really reflect on it all, I've still watched every race with the smile/awe of a five year-old getting a puppy and I will continue to do so!

As lawsohard said, 2010 and 2012 were hardly dominant. In the grand scheme of things it may seem that way but Alonso really took it to them.
Since 2009 the relative parity in the field has been great for the sport. Hell, last year we had 7 or 8 different winners in the same number of races? That's the best it has ever been.

Yes, Lewis was the seventh different winner when he won in Canada, I believe Alonso was the first repeat winner in the European GP the following race, then Webber if I remember correctly. Hell, in the first 13 races Seb only had one win and 4 podiums. Granted, he did go on to win the following 4 races (but one of them, Singapore, Lewis would most likely have won if it hadn't been for gearbox failure — 7 crucial points in a championship decided by 3).

The reason why it gets boring at the end of the season is that everybody who is out of the championship stops putting effort into this year's car and starts focusing on the next year. Marrusia, Caterham start that in week 1....and Ferrari probably quit a few races ago. And I would hardly say that F1 is boring because a team found a talented driver.
Also, next season, Alonso vs Kimi in the red cars? Gonna be epic.
